Calculating Wind Turbine Setbacks With Science Instead of Politics

August 5, 2013 by Paul Crowe

Wind turbine blade failure happens

If there is one hot button issue in communities where wind turbines are being discussed, it’s setbacks, how far must wind turbines be kept from property lines, roads and occupied buildings. Wind developers want a very short distance so they can install the maximum number of turbines while residents and property owners want them kept […]

Pioneer Green Energy Plans 570 Foot Turbines in Alabama – North East Too?

August 1, 2013 by Paul Crowe

FAA application for 570 foot tall wind turbines

Pioneer Green Energy, the wind developer trying to squeeze wind turbines on to small parcels of land in North East, is working on a project in Alabama. Their original plans, according to the residents of Alabama, were for wind turbines 450 feet tall. News stories in the paper listed even shorter heights. It seems they’ve […]

Wind energy is collapsing

We’ve been trying to point out just how bad the collapse of wind energy really is, but some of you might think we’ve only been showing you a few cherry picked facts, so here’s something for you to consider from the American Wind Energy Association, the wind energy trade group. Only 1.6 megawatts (MW) of […]

North East Officials Seem Unaware of Worldwide Wind Energy Retreat

July 30, 2013 by Paul Crowe

BP finds no buyers for wind energy business

BP, the huge oil company that operates a wind energy division, has been trying for the past four months to sell it. Unfortunately, it couldn’t find any buyers. The sale was seen as a continuation of the retreat of big oil companies from renewable energy investments while oil and gas projects offer them better returns. […]

Lack of Demand Puts Another Wind Energy Supplier Out of Business

July 29, 2013 by Paul Crowe

Wind energy has some serious problems

Wausaukee Composites, a Wisconsin wind turbine parts supplier, closed its doors due to a lack of business. “Wausaukee only recently learned that the primary customer served by the Cuba City facility was closing one of its facilities and would no longer be ordering component parts from Cuba City,” Trueman wrote. He also cited federal tax […]

Government Support of Wind Energy is Really Wind Welfare

July 23, 2013 by Paul Crowe

Turbine on fire, your tax dollars going up in smoke

Let’s cut to the chase, most of us are tired of the government taking more and more money from taxpayers like you and me and giving it to whatever individuals or companies make the most noise, and that’s exactly what wind energy is, just one more big government welfare program. Wind Welfare Landowners signing leases […]

Hot Weather and No Wind Underscore a Basic Flaw in Wind Energy

July 19, 2013 by Paul Crowe

High temperatures nationwide and no wind

For the last couple of weeks, a large portion of the US has been experiencing temperatures in the 80s and 90s. If you have air conditioning, you’re using it all day, every day. If you walk outside into the heat, you’ll notice something else, there’s no wind. This common occurrence every summer, high temps and […]

Germany Joins Countries Retreating from Expensive Green Energy Revolution

July 14, 2013 by Paul Crowe

You don't need conventional power plants, all you need are few wind turbines.

Despite assurances from wind and solar advocates, the switch to “green energy” isn’t going so well. Germany, a country that signed on for a big push to replace all of their nuclear plants with sunshine and wind and included the all too common mandates and subsidies for renewable energy and who refused to use natural […]

Unfortunately

The less you know about wind energy,
the more you'll like it.

Why wind developers never understand …

It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.

~ Upton Sinclair

Don’t know – Don’t care

Is willful ignorance necessary
to promote wind energy?

No, but it helps.

Climate Change

Another thing I must point out is that you cannot prove a vague theory wrong. … Also, if the process of computing the consequences is indefinite, then with a little skill any experimental results can be made to look like the expected consequences.

~ Richard Feynman, 1964

It’s not on-demand, it’s no-demand

Wind energy is "no-demand" electricity. If the wind isn't blowing and you demand electricity, the answer is no.

Wind – expensive, inefficient, unreliable

December 1923 Popular Science cover dreaming about generating electricity from windmills, and though the dream never dies, the dream doesn't work, didn't then, doesn't now and without huge government giveaways of your money, no wind farms would get built anywhere. The government forces utilities to buy wind power so payments to landowners are simply wind welfare.

Wind energy runs on tax credits

"I will do anything that is basically covered by the law to reduce Berkshire's tax rate, for example, on wind energy, we get a tax credit if we build a lot of wind farms. That's the only reason to build them. They don't make sense without the tax credit."
~ Warren Buffett - from interview with Fortune magazine

Wind investments and high cost green energy

“I’m in the wind business … I’ve lost my ass in the business. ... Hey, we can get on everything green. We can get on everything renewable. Then the cost of power will go up ten times."
~ T. Boone Pickens - on Morning Joe on MSNBC
