A 1.5 megawatt wind turbine fell over the other night in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, south of Pittsburgh. Why it fell over has not yet been determined. During the debate here in North East over proper setbacks and public safety, pointing out events like this never seemed to have any impact on the discussion because government officials and other supporters felt failures of this sort always happened somewhere far away or it was an extreme situation of some type and it didn’t apply because it could never happen here.
More and more people are beginning to see how wind energy itself cannot stand without massive government involvement. The wind energy production tax credit has finally expired after 21 years of taxpayer support. The wind industry will collapse, too, just like this wind turbine because without taxpayers footing the bill, wind energy is simply too expensive and unreliable to make sense.
